9 of My Favorite Things

Over the past week I was thinking about some of my favorite things. Here is a list of several of them.

Favorite Blog: I love to grow and learn from others. Blogs are a great place to be challenged, encouraged and grow. I’ll be honest some blogs are not worth your time, but some are great! My favorite blog has changed over time but my favorite at the moment is Carey Nieuwhof blog. It has great insights about life and church.

Favorite Verse: Scripture is so important to my life. I have many scriptures that I really like or have helped me during times of my life but my life verse is Joshua 1:9.

Favorite Video: I think this maybe one of the greatest moments in sports history. I get emotional every time i watch the video: J Mac is the Man!

Favorite podcast: I really enjoy listening to podcasts. It lets me hear from people I might never have a chance to sit down and learn from. I love to learn and it is a great way to grow. A few of my favorites: Entre Leadership, Andy Stanley Leadership Podcast, Elevation Church, Church on the Move, Pro Church Podcast, etc. However, this one is my absolute favorite: Perry Noble Leadership Podcast

Favorite Book: I truly believe leaders are readers. Some of my favorites are Visioneering by Andy Stanley, Over the Top by Zig Ziegler, Gospel Coach by Scott Thomas, The Master Plan of Evangelism by Robert E. Coleman, etc.  My “most” favorite book is My most favorite book is 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell. This book has influenced me more than just about any other books of all time.

Favorite Place to eat: I love food. It is probably one of the biggest struggles I have in my life. My favorite place to eat probably the Cheesecake Factory! I love the Shrimp & Bacon Club and Turtle Cheesecake.

Favorite Food: A great New York Strip cooked medium rare is the best! When is dinner?

Favorite Place to Go: The beach is probably my favorite place to go. I am not really picky about which beach. I do enjoy Sandestin, FL and Fort Morgan, AL.

Favorite Song: I really enjoy music. This is constantly changing. My favorite genre of music is hip-hop and rap. Anything by Lecrae is pretty much amazing! This is totally not in the previous genre, but my favorite song is Let it Be Known by Worship Central.

What are some of your favorite things?

How did God gift me?

Ready, Set, Go - SquareLast Sunday we talked about spiritual gifts at Courageous Church! We talked specifically how each person who is a follower of Christ has a gift to be used for the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:7). The point is we all need each other to make the greatest impact on the planet. As we spent time exploring 1 Corinthians 12 our desire was not just to have a great sermon but to really help people in exploring and finding their spiritual gifts.

We talked about 4 ways to help you figure out your spiritual gifts.

  1. Ask God
  2. Search His Word
  3. Ask Others in the Church
  4. Look for Opportunities to Experiment –

There is one final way that can be helpful and that is to take a spiritual gift assessment. This is not the end all but it can be very helpful in discerning your gift/gifts. Here are a few that can could be helpful.

Assessment 1

Assessment 2

Neither test is necessarily better than the other. I just thought it would be good to have something to compare against. I did not write these or can I take an credit for their complete accuracy. What I would encourage you to do is take the assessment and then sit down with a trusted believer and work through this. I would also encourage you to answer with complete honesty, not just what you want to be or wished you were. God made you on purpose and for a purpose. He doesn’t make mistakes.

I would love for you to comment and let me know what gifts seemed to be the highest. If you need any help in figuring out your gifts please don’t hesitate to comment below. Remember your gift was given to bless the body. Use it!
